The NATIONAL CADET CORPS

The National Cadet Corps is the Indian Military Cadet Corps with its Headquarter at New Delhi, formed under the NCC act of 1948 and raised on 15th July 1948. It is opened to
 school and college students 
on Voluntery basis. The NCC in India are given basic Military training in small arms and parades. Virous Camps are conducted to shape the cadets in building their discipline and motivating them into armed forces. It also opens a door for Officer's opportunity in the armed force by giving them basic training and completion of Certificate course. The Officer's and cadets have no liability for active military service once they complete their cours, but are given preference over normal candidate during selection based on the achivements on the corps.


Organisation

The NCC is headed by a Director General, an Army Officer of the rank of the Lieutenant General who is responsible for the functioning of the NCC Headquarter situated at Delhi. All the state level, the country has been divided into 17 directorates covering all states and union territories. Each of the state union cadet corps directorates headquarters controlls two or fourteen groups headquarters while directorates are commanded by Brigader or their equivalents,and thus, the units are commanded by Major/Lieutenant Colonel on their equivalents.


Directorates–There are 17 directorates locatedbin the State capitals headed by an officer rank of Major General from the three services.

Group–Depending on the size of the state and growth Directorate have upto 14 group headquarters which command and control the organisation in the state.

Battlion–Each NCC group headquarters control 5-7 units(Bns) commanded by Lt.Col. /Col. 

Companies–Each Battalion consist of Companies which are commanded by the Associate NCC Officer (ANO) of the rank Lieutenant to Major.

In all, there are 96 group headquarters in the country who control over a network of 684 Army Wing units, 60 Naval Wings unit and 61 Air Squadron. There are two training establishment namely :–Officer's Training School Kamptee (Nagpur,Maharastra) and Women Officer Training School, Gwalior.

NCC Motto;

"Unity and Discipline"


The NCC motto was first discussed in the 11th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting held on 11th August 1978. The motto suggested were; 1) "Duty and Discipline". 2) "Duty, Unity and Discipline". 3) "Duty and Unity". 4) "Unity and Discipline". The final selection of"Unity and Discipline" as mottow for the NCC was taken in the 12th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting held on 12th October 1980.

NCC Song

"Hum Sab Bhartya Hai"

                            "हम सब‍ भरतिया है"


The desire for composing NCC Song was consider in the Circle Commanders (now called DDG's) Conference held in January 1956 and all circles were asked to send their proposal. The Official song of NCC "Kadam Mila Ke Chal" was adopted in 1963 and registered in 1969 with approval of the Ministry of Defence. In 1974, it was felt that there was a need for a change . Entries were invited from directorates for suitable lyrics , 107 entries were received of which 8 were selectedby a Bard of Officials. However, all 8 were considered sub-standard by Dr.Narendra of Delhi University who was the Judge. 

Finally, in October 1982, the current song "Hum Sab Bhartiya Hai" was composed by Sudarshan Faakir.


Aims

i). To create a human resource of Organised,trained and Motivated youth. To provide leadership in all walks of life and be always available for the service of the nation.

ii). To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the Armed forces.

iii). To devlop character, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular outlook, Spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country.



OATH;

"I do hearby solemnly promise that I will serve my motherland most truely and loyally and that, I will abide by the rules and regulation of the National Cadet Corps. Further under the command and control of my Commanding Officer I will participate in every Camp most sincerely and wholeheartedly"


PLEDGE

          "We the Cadet of the                            National Cadet Corps,

 Do Soloemnly pledge that we shall always uphold the unity and discipline 

We resolve to be disciplined        and responsible Citizen of our Nation

 We shall undertake positive community service in the spirit of selflessness and concerned to our fellow beings"


FLAG

NCC flag was first introduced in 1951 in the same pattern,size and colour. The only difference was that it had the badge and unity designation placed in the centre. In 1954 the existing flag was introduced. The creast in gold in the middle with the letter "NCC" . The three colour in the flag depicts the three service of the corps i.e. Red for Army, Deep Blue for Neavy and Light Blue for the Air Force. At the centre, the 17 lotus represent the 17 Directorates and the two dots represent the Officer Training School kamptee,Maharastra & Gwalion l,Madhya Pradesh.
